This is Tim Nguyen.
Who is Tim?
- He is a senior at Boston Latin School
- He is a Research Intern at Harvard SEAS
- His current research is advised by Prof. Heng Yang
- He is an avgeek (like really obsessed with planes)
- He loves sailing and hiking
- His favorite artist is Saint Motel
- He is a bit too obsessed with Google and Patagonia
His main interests are in:
- Artificial Intelligence
- Computer Perception
- Sailing
He is currently working on:
Utilizing Large Vision and Deep Learning Techniques to optimize classical Structure from Motion (SfM) problems for radiance field based rendering (NeRFs, 3D Gaussians, etc). He hopes to use them on rendering large unbounded scenes in an efficient manner.
You can view more of his professional experience on Linkedin.
Research
SplattingTAPIR (2024)
Researching the use of vision-based foundation models integrated into the Structure from Motion (SfM) pipeline to optimize the rendering of large unbounded scenes. This research was done with the Harvard SEAS Computational Robotics Labs and the Boston Latin School Senior Capstone program. The project was awarded Grand Prize at the Boston/Region VI Science & Engineering Fair, honorable mention for the Massachusetts Science & Engineering Fair, and also a finalist at the International Science and Engineering Fair.
Low-Poly Photogrammetry (2023)
Researching ways to create and implement a low-poly photogrammetry package that is lightweight and also has the ability to run on a wide range of devices. This research was done at MIT and was awarded First Place for the Boston/Region VI Science & Engineering Fair.
Project Bluefish 3 (2022)
Using A* pathfinding algorithm to map out and model the foot traffic of the Boston Latin School campus. This project was awarded Second Place for the Boston/Region VI Science & Engineering Fair and Honorable Mention for the Massachusetts High School Science & Engineering Fair. A collaboration with Phineas Scovel.
Projects
3D Models
See some 3D models made with Blender in AR.
Studyio
Free and easy way to create flashcards and study them. This was made as a reaction (no pun intended) to Quizlet charging for Learn and Test. Studyio was made using React.js
Winter Wonderland
An immersive virtual playground to hangout and catch up with friends. Creating meetings in a 3D space with audio and video support. A collaboration with Sid.
FlashNotes
A smarter and my intuitive way to take notes and share blog posts. FlashNotes was made using React.js
Computerized Analysis and Learning of Emulated Basketball (CALEB)
Using machine learning and over 20+ years of NCAA games to train a model to be able to predict the winner of a game based on team stats. Used it to predict to 2023 March Madness Brackets.
Project Seaward
Using WebXR and web stories to visualize and illustrate the effects of climate change.
Project Bluefish
(Not Linked Due to Security Reasons) Making an immersive experience of the Boston Latin School campus during Remote Learning with WebXR and Blender.
Molecular Geometry Interactive
A simple web app that helps people visualize what different molecular geometries look with AR.js.
SmartDisplayPi
Using a Raspberry Pi to make your own Smart Display with Google Assistant.
OpenCV Video Undistorter
A simple web app or Python script that can calculate the intrinsic matrix and distortion coefficients using OpenCV. These generated values can then be used to "undistort" videos using the same camera.
